Is your dog looking for a dog bff? Do you live in an acreage home with lots of room to run and explore and a fenced area for your dogs? Are you okay owning a dog who will be aloof at first until you earn their love and trust? Are you a homebody who isn’t looking for a traveling companion but someone to hang out at home?
If you answered yes to all of these questions Sookie may be a fit for you!
Sookie does not easily relate to people, rather it takes work to build trust with her and you must respect her comfort level in new situations and environments. She does not mind people being around but is not eager to physically engage with unknown people. She will quite quickly be okay doing a trick and taking a tasty treat from someone new when she is in her own environment. But sometimes prefers to just go hide in her crate.
Once she does build trust with you she is a wonderful dog and her foster family is quite happy to do a slow transition into her forever home. Sookie is crate trained, leash trained (only in safe environments – the leash causes Sookie to panic if going somewhere new or her environment suddenly changes, she is not well suited to city walks), house trained, okay in the car. She likes to learn tricks and is motivated by both food and play, loves other dogs, loves swimming if you have a pond in your backyard, likes to dig holes to poke her nose in when she doesn’t have a pool to cool off in, LOVES puppies. Does not love to travel but will tolerate it if it is to a place she likes, definitely does not like to be in busy areas (really she does not like to go out of sight of the door into her house). Likes to spend her days playing at the acreage with her dog buddy and then napping on the dog bed in the living room.
If you have questions about Sookie or think she may be a good fit for you and your current dog(s) please let us know! She continues to work on her training to be a more adjusted member of our human world and will keep everyone updated. Her latest progress includes this new trick, which she will do for someone she is gaining confidence with!
Sook is about 4 years old, right at the 55 pound mark, a Border Collie, Lab, Shepherd type mix.
**Sookie requires a home with another dog and in a rural location.
